The Beat - A Timing, Rhythm, Musicality Workshop with Andrew - STUDENT RATE

$10.00

Student rate for high school and post-secondary students with student id. Please present your id at check in.

Because it’s usually not possible to dedicate enough time and attention to this topic in regular dance classes the goal of this workshop is to give participants the vocabulary, the understanding and some tools for a greater engagement with and enjoyment of the music in their dancing.

This workshop is for

  • beginners/novice dancers just beginning their journey in WCS and new intermediates. This workshop will help you know what's going on as you progress on your dance journey, it will help you understand what your teacher is talking about when referring to music, it will help you understand basic music jargon.

  • anyone who has trouble dancing on time

  • anyone who has trouble hearing the beat

  • anyone who has trouble finding 'the one"

  • anyone who would like a basic introduction to music terminology

  • anyone who has a basic understanding of music theory but would like help applying it to dance

  • anyone curious about song structure and how to make their dancing sync with the highs and lows of a song

No partner required.

Please bring pen/pencil and paper and socks you feel comfortable dancing in. (Even if you have dance shoes, please bring socks to dance in as we’ll be dancing in socks for some of the time.)

Andrew McIntosh

Dancer, choreographer, instructor with over 25 years of experience helping people find "the beat'.  Andrew studied piano and participated in choir for a number of years as a kid and in general grew up with music in his life.  Next to dancing, music is his second passion (hockey is his third).  He has taught timing and musicality workshops for ballroom dancers and has designed the content of this upcoming workshop specifically for WC Swing dancers.  Andrew is excited and eager to share his insight, tools and strategies and kindle a greater awareness and appreciation for the "third partner" in dance, the music!
